Red Thread

The route familiarizes you with Ivanovo's architectural heritage of the 1920s–1930s. It starts from Vokzalnaya Square and leads through the city to Revolution Square. Most of the route runs along Lenin Avenue. It is on it and the adjoining streets that a significant part of unique buildings of that time is concentrated. On the information stands you can see the original appearance of 24 buildings created during the rapid development of Ivanovo from 1925 to 1936, and learn about their history, including the famous houses-metaphors – House-Ship, House-Horseshoe, House-Bird, as well as the first factory-kitchen in the USSR, the building of Ivselbank architect Victor Vesnin and other masterpieces of constructivism. The route is accompanied by an audio guide.

Windows of history

The route was developed by the ArtHub Gallery of Contemporary Art together with the SCHTANDART window factory. The goal of the collaboration of representatives of the creative and entrepreneurial communities is to transform the streets of Ivanovo and tell residents and guests of the city about its architectural heritage. As part of the #ArtUlochkaRTC project, Rostelecom's communication cabinets have been turned into portals of history. They reproduce archive photos of iconic Ivanovo buildings – from the Shchudrovskaya tent of the 17th century, the earliest stone building in the city, to the Duringer estate, one of the few surviving pre-revolutionary Art Nouveau estates built by architect Alexander Snurilov in 1914.

Ivanovo would not have the title of textile capital if the best textiles of the country could not be bought here. Buyers come to the city not only from neighboring regions, but also from abroad for high-quality and diverse products. All the novelties of the industry can be found in the shopping center «Textile Profi» – one of the largest wholesale and retail textile complexes in Russia. The history of the building occupied by the shopping center is interesting. It is the former spinning building of the factory «Krasnaya Talka», built in 1929. The two-storey building with continuous ribbon glazing is one of the first in the country to be constructed of reinforced concrete structures and is a vivid example of constructivism. The authors of the project are Moscow architects Ivan Nikolaev and Boris Gladkov. The 200-meter long facade ends with a tower in the form of a grandstand. Since 1975 it has been decorated with a mosaic panel «Heroes of the Revolution» by artist Konstantin Frolov. Today «Textile Profi» presents more than 800 companies-manufacturers of textile and sewing products, fabrics, as well as related goods and services. Here you can find everything from bed linen and towels to home knitwear and sleepwear.
